Stratosphere

Okay my floormates and I wanted to have one really fun night before school started so we all went down to that Strip down to the Stratosphere where you go up about 109 floors to the very top and they have these wicked rides up there that you ride. These are the most intense rides I have ever been on! We first went on the Big Shot. This ride shoots you up the needle of the tower. You sit around the needle strapped into seats. They shoot you up really fast and then you free fall almost to the bottom and then you shoot up again and it keeps doing that until your down. You shoot up and you get this amazing view of Las Vegas...like as high as an airplane...you literally need to adjust your ears because of the pressure. Then we went next to X-Scream...and I am not exaggerating one bit...it was the scraiest ride I've been on before. You're in this rollercoaster kinda cart but the run way is only about 20 feet long and they shoot you out the side of this enormous building and then you stop at the edge hanging off of the building! I was screaming so much because I sat at the front (yeah not so smart!) It was so intense! We then went to the last ride called Insanity that dangles you out over the edge and spins you at a 70 degree angle so you face the ground. These three rides going in order from the Big Shot, Insanity and X-Scream are the three highest thrill rides in the WORLD!! I'm tellign you they are sick! Okay well that has to be the most exciting thing that has happened to me since I've been here...next? The New York New York Roller Coaster!

School starts tomorrow

Well I am now settled into UNLV and I am starting school tomorrow. I am taking 6 courses (crappy) and swimming, which sounds like a full time job in itself. Tomorrow we have a captains workout which is just frisbee and stretches, or so they say. Nothing too hard. I also have a NCAA requirement meeting that all first years have to go to. I'm a little nervous I won't be able to find my classes or I'll be late but I guess we'll see how it goes. Well I am writing this because a) I needed an update and b) to see what y'all are doing. I haven't heard because most are pretty busy moving and getting ready for school but if guys can email me or put in a comment on how you're doing. I am going to go eat now so I'll talk to you guys later.

Las Vegas

Alright! I am here in Vegas and so far so good. Considering the first day of check-in was hell, I ran around this HUGE campus like a chicken with my head cut off...plus being an International Student doesn't help matters because you have so many other things to do besides just show up. I am melting and I have probably dropped 5 lbs just from sweating so much. Mom and I are now finishing up our list of To Do's and now I get to relax and go on a computer. School starts on Monday so I'm getting excited. I have moved into dorms and I like my floor so far. I am in the new dorms and I am surrounded by muscial people who play the guitar. My roomate is From LV and she's pretty cool (plys the guitar too) and the guys all around us do too. Oh did I mention I'm in a co-ed dorm? Yeah gonna be an adventure. I meet with the swim team soon and get organized with them. Oh! The whole welcome orientation was amazing too! There were cheerleaders, a band, and fireworks and confetti! It was a huge deal! This school also gives you a ton of stuff for free all the time! T-shirts, water bottles, food, etc. It's quite amazing and this is only the 3rd day. Okay well I am going to brave the blistering hot sun again and walk over to the Rec center. Hope everything is good where y'all are and I miss you guys like Mad! (when I get time) Love you lots!

Ocean Kayacking

Well the last few days has been awesome. On Saturday Mom, Dad and I went down to Queen Charlotte City for a quick little look then we went out on the back roads to go home where we took our time looking around. We then got to a place where the Big Spruce is. This tree is gigantic! We knew we had found it because there was a little sign saying 'Big Spuce'. I laughed when I saw so I took a picture. We then spent some time picking huckleberries because there are so many of them in the ditch. It was fun and dirty. Then yesterday all three of us borrowed some kayacks from some friends and we went kaacking on the Datelmen Inlet in the ocean. It was so much fun. I got to see a couple seals, tons of sea urchins and star fish and some sea cucumbers which my Dad flipped one onto my kayack...it was so disgusting. I took a picture though. We paddled around for a little bit and saw the reversing falls and had a picnic there. Great spot for Salmon fishing...which I hope I can get some in here before I leave. But today was a pretty relaxed day. I went to go workout in Port Clements today...worst gym EVER! Then Mom and I went for a swim in the ocean because it was so hot out. Then we took a quick drive down to QC City where we bought some groceries and then we came back for a huge dinner with some guests and a friend. Crab and Salmon with pasta salad...oh so good. With saskatoon pie for dessert. Tomorrow a bunch of us are heading up to the North Beach where we are going to get a little crabbing done, rip up and down the beach on the ATVs and probably go to Rose Spit and maybe pick some strawberries. Then I have to visit Toe Hill and the blow hole...I always do that. Make a big day trip up there....can't wait!

Listen to this!

Well so far my vacation out here has been an adventure. Good times and bad...already. The good out weigh the bad though. My family and I went crabbing the other morning and we got up at 3AM!! It was so rough. But we got up...I had my 3 cups of coffee and we headed out. We drove all the way up to North Beach and we got ourselves the limit in 15 minutes! That has never been done for us! It was awesome. They were everywhere. Then we decided that since we did so well we would go the next morning as well. So my parents asked this time if some friends wanted to come. Oh! I forgot to mention...that this couple (according to my parents) are going to be my inlaws. My parents figure that I should meet a nice young man...and they like this son of theirs. Oh did I mention he's 31. Yeah a little old for me. Anyways, we went out again and we got a nice haul. 24 crabs! You are allowed 6 each with a license. So we had a great time. We have had crab 2 nights in a row and I am not getting sick of it. Okay, so back to the arranged marriage...My parents think they are being funny by just mentioning this guy. I have never met him (and don't really want to). I'm sure he's nice...but he's 31! Oh well...my parents just blame it on wanting the best for me.
So to brag about more adventures I am about to have. We have set up with a lady to borrow her kayacks and go out on the ocean to these wonderful springs. You can get some great whale watching is as well. I really hope to see some. Then also my Dad has a friend with a charter boat and he's going to take us fishing! If you know me...I love to fish. I have been raised as a great fisher. I am so excited. I will tell you about that when I get back.
I have also been doing a little swimming. In the ocean and in the little pool in Masset. Yes there is a pool, but let me tell you its not a great one! It's a 18 meter 3 lane pool. It's so dingy and gross I can only last about an hour before I feel dirty. I don't get much of a workout...but fighting agaist my own waves tires me a bit. The blocks are very scary that I only dive off of one that I have approved as safe and they have very limited swimming supplies. Oh well...I just have to deal. Okay well I am off to go relax and watch a movie perhaps. Night!
